Myofunctional Therapy Session in OKC

If you've been Googling "myofunctional therapy OKC," you probably already suspect something is off — with your breathing, your sleep, your jaw, or your kid's habits. You're in the right place.

I'm Jennifer DeJonge, a Registered Dental Hygienist and myofunctional therapist here in Oklahoma City. I run OMT of Oklahoma out of OKC and see patients both in person and virtually throughout Oklahoma.

Here's what you need to know.

What is myofunctional therapy?

Think of it like physical therapy — but for your face.

More specifically, it's exercise-based therapy for the tongue, lips, and jaw. The goal is to correct how you breathe, how your tongue rests in your mouth, and how you swallow.

Those things sound small. They're not.

When your tongue rests low in your mouth, when you breathe through your mouth instead of your nose, when you swallow with the wrong muscles — it affects your sleep, your airway, your teeth, and your jaw over time.

Myofunctional therapy corrects the root cause instead of just treating the symptom.

What does it actually treat?

The most common reasons people come to me in OKC:

  • Snoring or sleep apnea

  • Mouth breathing

  • Tongue tie (before or after a release procedure)

  • Teeth grinding or jaw pain (TMJD)

  • Orthodontic relapse — teeth shifting back after braces

  • Kids with open mouths, poor sleep, or attention issues linked to airway problems

Adults and kids both. I see patients as young as 4.

What does a program look like?

We start with a free evaluation. I look at how you breathe, how your tongue rests, and how you swallow. From there, I put together a plan.

Most patients go through about 12 sessions. We meet regularly, I give you exercises to do at home, and we work toward specific goals — not just improvement, but actual completion.

Sessions are available in person at my office on N. May Ave in Oklahoma City, or virtually if you're elsewhere in Oklahoma.

Why work with someone local in OKC?

There aren't many myofunctional therapists in Oklahoma. I'm one of the few, and the only one I know of offering both in-person and virtual care statewide.

I also work alongside an airway-focused dentist in OKC, which means if your situation involves sleep appliances or a tongue tie release, you're not navigating that alone.

Ready to find out if this is right for you?

Start with a free evaluation. We'll look at what's going on and figure out together whether myofunctional therapy makes sense for you.
